Dental Crowns & Bridges in Lavon, TX

Missing one or more teeth can impact your oral health, appearance, and overall quality of life. Gaps left in your smile can lead to shifting of adjacent teeth, causing misalignment and bite issues. This can result in difficulty chewing, changes in speech, and even an increased risk of tooth decay and gum disease. At Simply Smiles, we offer effective solutions to these problems through dental crowns and bridges. These restorative options not only fill the gaps left by missing teeth but also restore the function and aesthetics of your smile.

What are Dental Crowns?

A dental crown is a custom-made cap that covers a damaged or weakened tooth, restoring its shape, size, strength, and appearance. Crowns are often used to protect a tooth that has undergone significant decay, has a large filling, or has been treated with a root canal. They can also be placed on top of dental implants to replace a missing tooth. The primary purpose of a dental cap is to provide structural support and protection, preventing further damage while enhancing the tooth’s function and appearance.

What are Dental Bridges?

A dental bridge is a restorative solution that replaces multiple missing teeth by literally “bridging” the gap between your remaining natural teeth. The bridge consists of one or more artificial teeth, known as pontics, anchored by dental crowns attached to the adjacent teeth or implants. The primary purpose of a dental bridge is to restore your smile’s functionality and appearance, allowing you to chew and speak more comfortably. Additionally, dental bridges help maintain the alignment of your teeth by preventing the neighboring teeth from shifting into the space.

The Dental Crown and Bridge Process

Initial Consultation and Examination

During your initial visit, Dr. Vuong will assess the condition of your teeth and gums, discuss your concerns, and determine the best restorative solution for your needs. We will also take X-rays or digital scans to get a detailed view of your oral structure, ensuring that your crown or bridge will fit perfectly and function effectively.

Preparation of the Affected Tooth/Teeth

  • For Crowns: The tooth that will receive the crown is carefully reshaped to allow the crown to fit snugly over it. This involves removing a small portion of the tooth’s surface to make room for the crown. After reshaping, we take precise impressions of your tooth to ensure the crown is custom-made to fit perfectly.
  • For Bridges: In the case of a dental bridge, the teeth on either side of the gap (known as abutment teeth) are prepared in a similar manner to crown preparation. These teeth are reshaped to hold the crowns that will anchor the bridge securely in place. Impressions of the abutment teeth and the gap are then taken to create a bridge that fits seamlessly.

Temporary Crowns or Bridges Placement (if necessary)

While your permanent crown or bridge is being crafted in the dental lab, a temporary crown or bridge may be placed to protect your prepared teeth. This temporary solution allows you to maintain normal function and aesthetics until your final restoration is ready.

Final Fitting and Adjustment for Comfort and Bite Alignment

Once your custom crown or bridge is ready, you’ll return to our office for the final fitting. The temporary restoration will be removed, and the permanent crown or bridge will be carefully placed and adjusted for a perfect fit. We will check your bite to ensure the restoration feels comfortable and functions naturally, making any necessary adjustments to achieve optimal alignment.

Post-Procedure Care and Follow-Up Visits

We will provide detailed instructions on how to care for your new restoration. Good oral hygiene practices, such as regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups, are essential to maintaining the longevity and health of your crown or bridge. Follow-up visits may be scheduled to monitor your restoration and address any concerns, ensuring that your smile remains healthy and beautiful for years to come.

Benefits of Dental Crowns and Bridges

  • Restoration of Function and Appearance: Dental crowns and bridges effectively restore the function and appearance of your teeth, allowing you to chew, speak, and smile confidently. They are designed to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth, providing a beautiful and functional solution.
  • Enhanced Durability and Longevity of the Affected Teeth: Made from strong, durable materials, crowns and bridges protect weakened teeth and can last many years with proper care.
  • Prevention of Further Damage or Misalignment: Crowns and bridges prevent further dental issues by stabilizing damaged or missing teeth, preventing shifting and bite misalignment to help preserve the health of your existing teeth.
  • Improved Oral Health and Ability to Chew or Speak Properly: Restoring the full function of your teeth improves your ability to chew and speak clearly.
  • Boost in Self-Confidence with a Restored Smile: A restored smile can significantly boost your self-confidence and help you feel more comfortable in social and professional situations.
